Yoshi’s Woolly World has three big things in its favour: it feels fabulous to play, it looks sumptuous and it sometimes makes you feel like a genius. Even amongst the generous array of mega. Dec 11, 2016 Welcome to Yoshi's Woolly World! The purpose of this guide is to walk you through obtaining 100% completion in this game. It's not necessarily meant for those who just want to finish the main game, as the game was designed to be easy enough to beat on its own. Mar 28, 2019 Yoshi's Crafted World for Switch game reviews & Metacritic score: Discover the flip side of Yoshis world. Lead Yoshi on a brand new adventure that will turn everything youve come to expect from side-scrolling games upside down.
Yoshi's Woolly World is a side-scrolling platformer with a lot in common with past titles. If you've ever played any of the Yoshi's Island games, some of this will sound familiar! It's his first outing on the Wii U and on a home console since N64's Yoshi's Story. I would like to start with the very basic premise of the game, let's begin.
Once Upon A Time In A Woolly World...
Kamek has turned all the Yoshi's into snuggly little balls of yarn and it's up to you to travel across the various worlds collecting them all up. Of course, there may be some appearances from a couple of familiar Mario villains and without giving away any spoilers, Magikoopa could be considered just a puppet in this equation!
The accompanying worlds that take you through your journey have the very traditional themes we all know and love; fire, ice, forest, desert etc. The idea behind each stage is to get to the end of the level in one piece, each one has four varying factors that contribute to the overall completion of the game. To get a shiny gold medal you'll have to make sure you pick up all 5 pieces of wonder wool, all 5 daisys, all of the 20 hidden gems and last but not least finish the stage with full health.
Now that for the most part starts off fairly simple in the beginning, this quickly becomes a lot more challenging though and provides the game with plenty of replay value. I found it easier to complete each stage then work my way back through each level, focusing on one objective at a time. It's a really good idea to get you to continue playing the game long after you've reached the final boss. Unless you know this game inside out before you've played I'd be insanely surprised if you found everything in the game at 100% completion on your first play through.
It does show that Yoshi's Woolly World isn't all just about its look, the developers of the game, Good Feel, have put some real time and effort into creating inventive level design and thought about new ways to play. Is it a bird?! Is it a plane?! Nope, it's just Yoshi disguised as an umbrella! That's right, Yoshi is also able to transform into various different means of transport. Some of these are not your usual type, such as the mole digger (I made that up myself) but it just adds to the game's charm. There are special doors that give him these unique abilities and they range from making Yoshi into a towering giant, turning him into a floaty umbrella and even a shimmering mermaid; complete with glittery fin! Behind each one of these special doors you are given a time limit in which to reach the goal and the difficulty level does depend on what you're transformed into.
Yoshi's Woolly World Metacritic List
These forms are in short supply but introduce new ideas each time you come across one, this ensures the gameplay doesn't feel stale and finding out what the next transformation will be gives you a little buzz of excitement!
Amiibos aplenty - oh hey, there's another!
The wonder wool you collect throughout the game on each stage will unlock you a new Yoshi, essentially there are over 70+ to find in the game and the designs they've come up with are truly quite a sight to behold. There's a special stage in each world should you wish to unlock them all which will grant you yet more colourfully designed Yoshis, this is one of the main factors that made this game an essential purchase for me.
If you have been going on a mammoth collect-a-thon and you have some Amiibo sitting on your shelf, you can use them in game to unlock some more Yoshi skins. There's around 25 of the current Amiibo selection that are compatible, it's a small addition but is easy on the eyes. Once you have scanned them in once, they're there forever as well so if you have friends with Amiibo's you haven't got yet it's a good idea to invite them over for game time! A fluffy finish!
Yoshi is still going around eating enemies, I don't think that will ever change. What's different in this game then? The answer is probably not a lot. Aesthetically though it really gives a feast for the eyes! Instead of eggs, you now poop out woolly balls of yarn to throw at your enemies. You'll be using that an awful lot too, filling in hidden platforms and using your tongue to reveal hidden walkways.
The challenge throughout the game is somewhere in between Kirby's Epic Yarn and Super Mario Galaxy, I never found it to increase terribly but I'd say it's not as easy as Kirby's Epic Yarn (Good Feel were behind that one too, no surprise there!) yet not as difficult as the Galaxy games. The boss battles at the end of each world are very well thought out, inventive and witty and they require a lot of tooth and nail precision timing when throwing your yarn balls but it never feels frustrating.
For people who are expecting something different you probably should save your pennies. If the game wasn't so fuzzy and beautiful, with the overall woolly theme I think this review would be a lot different. As it stands the gameplay is solid and it will take you a good 15 - 20 hours to complete.
That's not including the extras that I haven't mentioned in this review, and completing each level to a gold standard. Yoshi's Woolly World looks beautiful in all it's HD goodness and the colours really 'pop', after 18 years out of the big screens it's nice to have you back Yoshi!

Nintendo 3DS:
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World is a Yoshi platforming game for the Nintendo 3DS. It is a port of Yoshi's Woolly World, which was released for the Wii U in 2015. The game includes the entirety of the original game's levels, along with a bonus mode called Poochy Dash in which the player controls Poochy and tries to collect as many Beads as possible. It also introduces Poochy Pups, who assist the player in discovering secrets when playing in the easier Mellow Mode, Yoshi Theater, which features 31 Yoshi stop-motion videos, and the ability to design custom patterns for Yarn Yoshi. The game uses up 974.125 MB (7,793 blocks) of free space on the SD Card, if players purchase and download the game off the eShop.

Changes and new features[edit]
This port features more extensive amiibo support than the Wii U version. Like the Wii U version, various amiibo can be scanned to give Yoshi patterns based on those characters, but several newer amiibo now have their own patterns of Yoshi as well.
The game is now compatible with: Princess Daisy, Waluigi, Boo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Corrin, Waddle Dee, Wolf Link, Callie, Marie, and any of the Animal Crossing amiibo.
Similar to the Japanese and international color variations of the R.O.B. amiibo in the original game, the game also recognizes the Splatoon 2 variants of the Inkling amiibo and Super Mario-line Wario amiibo as a specific amiibo as well. This does not apply to the female Corrin amiibo, however.
For unknown reasons, the game does not recognize the Cloud, Bayonetta, Goomba, and Koopa Troopa amiibo as specific amiibo, despite being compatible with the Corrin amiibo.
A Yarn Poochy amiibo was released alongside the game; tapping it during a Yoshi level will put Poochy in the level for Yoshi to ride, while tapping it in one of the bonus Poochy stages will enable them to be played in Time Attack mode. If these Time Attack stages are completed, exclusive Poochy designs will be unlocked.
If a Smiley Flower is collected at the end of a stage, instead of playing a Bonus Game, a Gold Rush for Poochy Dash is unlocked where Poochy can collect Beads from a Gold Lakitu.
There is no longer a Results screen with Yoshi looking at it, due to the collectibles been shown on the touch screen.
A Yarn Yoshi amiibo can be used to store a custom Yoshi pattern and transfer it to another copy of the 3DS game.
Stamp Patches have been removed from this version, and are replaced with Pencil Patches.
Multiplayer mode has been removed, even though the introduction shows Red Yoshi escaping from Kamek as well as Green Yoshi.
The worlds and levels are on a straight linear path going left and right (akin to Super Mario 3D Land) instead of being connected through fully controllable hub worlds (like Super Mario 3D World).
The player needs to press instead of to play with a Yoshi.
The game progress is shown and hidden with and instead of being shown when the player stays still for 10 seconds.
The game features enhanced performance on New Nintendo 3DS systems, running at 60 frames per second (like the Wii U version) compared to 30 frames per second on standard 3DS or 2DS systems.
Critical reception[edit]
Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World, similarly to the original Wii U game, has received generally positive reviews. On review aggregate site Metacritic, it averages 77% based on 56 reviews.[2] On GameRankings, it has the similar rank of 77.04%, based on 25 reviews.[3]

'Poochy & Yoshi’s Woolly World remains one of the cutest games around. Even though most of the tactile charm of the Wii U original has been lost to the 3DS’s technical limitations, there’s still plenty of fun to be uncovered in this colourful and often inventive platformer. Incidentally, it also brings some of the happiest, catchiest music ever to the 3DS. Yoshi’s faithful Poochy is loveable new addition, but he feels underused; he appears only in a handful of animated shorts, a sparse challenge mode, and as little more than a series of assists in the super-easy ‘Mellow’ mode. He definitely makes tracking down all of the numerous collectibles more enjoyable, but it’s a shame this instantly likeable character doesn’t have more to do that’s unique to his skills.'

'Though the gulf between two very different difficulties is not fully fixed by its additions, from the updated Mellow Mode to the extra Poochy levels, Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly World gives you what you put in--it can either be almost frustratingly hard for a determined collector or a good fit for someone who’s just looking for a fun, relaxing few hours of platforming.'

'Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World is as fun on the 3DS as the original is on the Wii U. The levels are just as crafty as before, the visuals take a slight hit but are still colorful and creative, and the soundtrack is so gosh darn charming. It's the best Yoshi game on the 3DS, and if you don't already own it on the Wii U, I would suggest picking it up.'
